The Kašovice fortress is associated with a legend that is similar to the well-known fairy tale about the princess with a golden star on her forehead: From the information board near the fortress, we learn how it was recorded by František Alexander Heber:
In ancient times, there lived a powerful ruler in Šumava, whose wife had a golden star on her forehead. This woman had a daughter from her first marriage named Bozena, who also had a golden star shining on her forehead. So that no one would recognize her, she wrapped a white scarf around her forehead and smeared ashes on her face to look like a boy. Then she went on to the castle, which lay on the edge of a large forest. It was the knight's fortress of Kašovice. When she came to the kitchen, she begged the cook to allow her to work in the castle, and so it happened. Vladyka once went to a ball, probably to Sušice, and Bozena went to see him, dressed in her beautiful clothes, which she hid in the forest. Then it was the turn of the ring and at the next ball a pearl rosette. The lord then found both gifts in his food and everything was clear. He married Božena and they lived happily ever after.
